This Week...

Language Arts:
Poem-
I'm a Little Scarecrow
I'm a little scarecrow, short and fat.
Here is my shirt and here is my hat.
Stuff my arms and legs with lots of hay
And watch me chase the crows away!

Handwriting:  y, j
Word Wall Words:  zero, to
Working on ending sounds.
Building and making words with 3 and 4 letters.

In writing and reading, we are working on the beginning, middle and end.  It is important  for them to be able to recall the story with details.  I like to have them identify the problem, the details, and the solution.  They have been writing about a small moment from Thanksgiving break and each day they are editing by adding on details.  Prompting questions include:  Who is there?  Where are you?  What are you doing?  Why? When did it happen?

Math:
I can solve and create addition and subtraction problems.
We have been playing spill the beans.  You take 10 coins that are colored on both sides.  Once you flip the coins, you count the red and yellow.  Then using the totals, you make an addition sentence.  Check your child's folder for the example of how this works.
I am also working with them on part/part/whole.  I give them an amount of objects, they separate them into two groups.  Then make a number sentence.  I give them 5, they separate it by 2 and 3.  The parts are 2 and 3.  The whole is 5.
I will add some video this week on how we play these games!

Science:
I can observe and record properties of objects.
The students are using describing words to help someone decide what the object is they have picked.  We discuss the properties (color, size, texture and shape).
