A look at this week...

Poem of the Week: If you're ready for the New Year
Word Wall Words: four, you, are, do, love
Introduce Word Family:  -an word family (can, fan, man, ran, scan, bran) Using them in a sentence and discussing definitions.
Handwriting: Forming the Numbers correctly #1-5 
Phonics: Students will practice stretching out cvc words.  We will work on blending words to decode while reading.  We are working on short and long vowel sounds.
Writing Block:  I can write about small moments.
We read, "The Night Before New Years Eve" and made a list of New Year's Resolutions. Then, we made new year's hats and they wrote their resolutions.   We will also write about if we were a snowman..., In winter, I...
Reading Block :  I can use reading strategies to comprehend the book.
Students will make predictions and ask questions.  We will continue to work on what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story.  Problem/solution
Readers Workshop:  We are reading independently 11 minutes now.  Ask your child what stamina is?

Math:
I can describe, identify and compare three dementional shapes.

The students will use words to describe the cube and/or the real-life object that resemble a cube. Continue the same process with the cone, cylinder, and sphere.
• How can we describe the ______or the real-life models?
• How is a _____different from the other 3-D figures?
• How do we know an object looks like a _____?
• What shapes do you see in the ______ or real-life object?
• Is it curved?
• Does it have corners?

We are continuing to work on problem solving, addition and subtraction number sentences.  We are counting to 100, working on even and odd numbers, counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.  Identifying money
Science:
I can observe, record, describe, compare, and sort rocks and other objects by their properties.
rock: a solid material made up of minerals

compare: to look for ways objects are alike and different

size: how large or small objects are

property: a characteristic of matter
