Language Arts/Reading Overview to date

Reading/Language Arts
  • beginning and ending sounds
  • stretching CVC words out verbally
  • manipulating letters to make words
  • writing sentences to descibe our picture (I am looking for a sentence with a capital at the beginning, spaces in between words, punctuation at the end.)
    • This is something your child can do at night for homework.  Have them come up with an idea to write about and give you one sentence using their BEST work.  Have them do all of the sounding out and I always make them spell their word wall words correctly using the word baggies!
  • counting syllables in words
  • rhyming words (Black sack are rhyming words, I said black sack are rhyming words) This is a chant we do with rhyming
  • practice reading using one to one correspondence (ask them to point to the words as they read so they can track their words)  Also have them go back and find words that repeat on each page.  Pull it out of context and see if they can recognize it.
  • During reading books aloud- I have been working with them on making connections: that reminds me of.., inferring: what they think will happen?  Discuss the setting characters, setting problem and solution.
  • MAKE SURE YOU ARE SIGNING THAT YOUR CHILD READ TO YOU EACH NIGHT THEY BRING HOME THEIR GUIDED READING FOLDER.  THEIR FOLDER NEEDS TO COME BACK EACH DAY.  THANK YOU!!!
